LEGO Movie Night V: Five Parables
The Parables
Group A: The Rich Fool
Scripture: Luke 12:13-21
15 And he said to them, "Take heed, and beware
of all covetousness; for a man's life does not
consist in the abundance of his possessions." 16
And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of
a rich man brought forth plentifully; 17 and he
thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have
nowhere to store my crops?' 18 And he said, `I
will do this: I will pull down my barns, and
build larger ones; and there I will store all my
grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my
soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for
many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be
merry.' 20 But God said to him, `Fool! This
night your soul is required of you; and the
things you have prepared, whose will they be?'
21 So is he who lays up treasure for himself,
and is not rich toward God."
Group B: The Good Samaritan
Scripture: Luke 10:25-37
29 … "And who is my neighbor?" 30 Jesus replied,
"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho,
and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and
beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 Now by chance a priest was going down that
road; and when he saw him he passed by on the
other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he
came to the place and saw him, passed by on the
other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed,
came to where he was; and when he saw him, he
had compassion, 34 and went to him and bound up
his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set
him on his own beast and brought him to an inn,
and took care of him. 35 And the next day he
took out two denarii and gave them to the
innkeeper, saying, `Take care of him; and
whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I
come back.' 36 Which of these three, do you
think, proved neighbor to the man who fell among
the robbers?" 37 He said, "The one who showed
mercy on him." And Jesus said to him, "Go and do
likewise."
Group C: Two Builders
Scripture: Matthew 7:21-29
24 "Every one then who hears these words of mine
and does them will be like a wise man who built
his house upon the rock; 25 and the rain fell,
and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat
upon that house, but it did not fall, because it
had been founded on the rock. 26 And every one
who hears these words of mine and does not do
them will be like a foolish man who built his
house upon the sand; 27 and the rain fell, and
the floods came, and the winds blew and beat
against that house, and it fell; and great was
the fall of it."
Group D: The Lost Sheep
Scripture: Matthew 18:12-14 (see also Luke
15:3-10)
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred
sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he
not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go in
search of the one that went astray? 13 And if he
finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over
it more than over the ninety-nine that never
went astray. 14 So it is not the will of my
Father who is in heaven that one of these little
ones should perish.
Group E: The Unjust Judge and the Importunate
Widow
Scripture: Luke 18:1-8
1 And he told them a parable, to the effect that
they ought always to pray and not lose heart. 2
He said, "In a certain city there was a judge
who neither feared God nor regarded man; 3 and
there was a widow in that city who kept coming
to him and saying, `Vindicate me against my
adversary.' 4 For a while he refused; but
afterward he said to himself, `Though I neither
fear God nor regard man, 5 yet because this
widow bothers me, I will vindicate her, or she
will wear me out by her continual coming.'" 6
And the Lord said, "Hear what the unrighteous
judge says. 7 And will not God vindicate his
elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he
delay long over them? 8 I tell you, he will
vindicate them speedily. Nevertheless, when the
Son of man comes, will he find faith on earth?" |
