Miss Minifig's Advice Column

Patty Asks: What are your launch day plans?

You have been great about sharing these FLL resources. I’m curious as to whether your group has coordinated a season kickoff event. If so, what information did you find was valuable to include in this event? We’re coordinating our first Arizona kickoff event in a couple of weeks. Thank you for all of your efforts!

Patty

Miss Minifig Answers:

Yes, Patty. We typically have a launch day event and this year it will be bigger than ever! As homeschoolers we are free to make a day of it. So here's what we have planned:

9:30-11:45:  All three FLL teams will build their table elements and setup their tables. Any remaining time will allotted to becoming familiar with the mat and pieces. Of course, we'll be using our enhanced assembly instructions and table elements guides found on our resources page.

11:45-12:00: We will gather together in the main room with the projector running and logged into the US FIRST FLL Website. We'll have some general discussion as wait for the release of the challenge.

12:00-12:15:  When the  documents are released we will cheer and holler, then read the basic challenge from the screen then send them outside for lunch.

12:15-1:00: While the teams are eating lunch we will print out sets of the challenge documents for each team.

1:00-3:00: Teams will individually begin their strategic discussions about the table challenge and the project.

3:00-4:00: Group discussion with all teams to share ideas and thoughts about the challenge. Final season overview for all teams.

And as they say, "That's all folks..."

Miss Minifig will answer questions about team building and strategy.
