Paul Leavitt, 13 and Robert Lopez 12, both home-schooled. Fathers Terry Leavitt and Steve Lopez acted as coaches/mentors. The Vex Challenge provided a wonderful opportunity for both of these boys to design and build a working robot to solve a defined challenge. The competition aspect of the Challenge brought excitement to the project. At the Oregon state competition none of us had any idea that these two boys would beat the high school science teams from Portland for the Oregon Champion title! At the National competition in Atlanta we met many wonderful people and had an awesome time. The boys horizon was greatly increased as they saw what could be achieved in both Vex and First Robotics. We consider placing around the mid-point at Nationals a roaring success! We owe a special thanks to the Tech Brick team, especially to Marco, for befriending us and assisting us in many ways. Their team personified Gracious Professionalism!
